Throughout the past month, the Manhattan Region has made an initiative for every chapter to host an informative program concerning the events unfolding in Israel. It is vital to connect with Jewish teens in times of unrest and terror, and Manhattan Region has created a safe space for teens to do so.

Recently, I attended my chapter's Israel program (Gotham BBYO). The program was for Israel's good and welfare. Two Rabbis from the synagogue we are associated with came in to lead the discussions. This fostered an extremely safe and informative environment where we could share our concerns about being a Jew in New York City and the atrocities occurring in Israel. Being a Jew in New York City has been scary, with many protests and threats occurring throughout the city and in schools. Hence, this program allowed us to open up to one another and share our similar concerns.

One of the most impactful parts of this event was the one-word check-in that occurred at the start and end of the program. I found that after our hour and a half of discussion, which was not nearly enough time, many participants felt a stronger sense of community and comfort, being surrounded by many with the same experiences.

Overall, it is necessary to come together to support one another in times of confusion and hatred, and the Manhattan region has been doing a fantastic job in creating this experience.

Sydney is a BBG living in New York City in Manhattan Region who loves listening to music.
